The cosplay community knows me by Rei, I'm a cosplayer from Oklahoma, and I've been cosplaying since 2014. The name TsundeRei is a play on words, my friends tease me about acting very tsundere-ish and my nickname is Rei, thus TsundeRei.
Why do I cosplay? For much of my life, I've been a very theatrical person. Cosplay allows me to be creative and step into a character for other people's entertainment much like theater does, so it was a perfect match.
I remember going to my first convention and "meeting" all of my favorite characters. Cosplay allows fictional stories to become real; I wanted to make someone's favorite character come to life too and give them that interaction that they'd never have otherwise.
What is Closet Cosplay? it also goes by the name casual cosplay, but it's when you use an outfit from your closet in place of official costuming for a character. Closet cosplays are easier, more available, and more affordable. However, closet cosplays are seen in a negative light of not being good enough in our community, and I've met people who avoid cosplaying because of how expensive it is. And cosplay is very expensive if you want a quality cosplay.
What is the purpose of this blog? I wanted to create to design affordable, quality cosplays out of normal clothes. I wanted to change that negative stigma into a positive one by using my artistic talent of piecing outfits together. I wanted to make outfits that make cosplayers confident and "good enough" without breaking the bank. I wanted to create multifunctional outfits that you can wear as an everyday outfit or a cosplay and still be recognized as a certain character.
