For easy, affordable, and no-sew cosplays!

I wanted to get one last blog post in before the new year!

I was very motivated by the satisfaction of completing the first one that I just had to use the momentum to create a second Closet Cosplay!

Now, Rize was tricky to make as both a trendy outfit and a proper cosplay considering her costume was unique and very post-modern-ish.

I loved the challenge and creatively thinking around the outfit to make it multifunctional, so I decided to challenge myself again, but with something pre-modern. Thus, Ciel Phantomhive!

Ciel was one of my first cosplays and he is the only character I have an official costume for. And probably what the wonderful thing about Ciel is that even though his costumes are difficult to make, he has so many different outfits that you could swing a dead cat and hit a canon cosplay for him.

Although putting a mordern everyday outfit together that doubles as a cosplay proved itself to be tricky with the Victorian style, I managed. The outfit will be fashion forward to say the least.

Much of my inspiration came from this very stylish and Victorian outfit I ran across while doing my search. It’s simple and cute and runs alongside the trendiness of vintage clothing. Not going to lie, I would definitely wear this as everyday clothing.

As always, I want to remind and encourage my readers to seek out these items in local thrift stores for better prices than what I can offer online.

I’m very excited for this post since I’m able to give you a variety of options! Without further ado, Ciel’s Closet Cosplay!

The Blouse

I adore these shirts and it was very hard to decide between only a few colors and styles. When searching for items like this I would recommend using the adjectives: Victorian, Vintage, and (if you’re desperate) steampunk. It is a little pricey, but it’s so perfect!

What I would mend:

Tuck the blouse in the shorts/skirt.

Price: $36.98

I couldn’t resist this color either. To be honest, I much prefer this color over the first blouse. It is still a bit more pricey though. These are the cheapest, but best quality blouses I could find, but I still encourage you to look for better deals!

What I would mend:

Tuck the blouse in the shorts/skirt.

Price: $38.99

The Shorts and Skirts

High waisted shorts are the way, my friend.

What I would mend:

Suggestion: replace the black buttons with golden buttons.

Combo the shorts with a high-to-low skirt for Ciel’s costume.

Price: $17.99 - $23.99

This skirt comes in a couple other styles, but I thought this amount of lace and frills was just perfect for Ciel. However, I will say this skirt is a little too formal for casual attire. I would definitely go for the shorts.

What I would mend:

Combo skirt with the shorts for Ciel’s costume.

Price: $19.99

Within the past few years, suspenders bursted into today’s trends of retro and vintage aesthetic, making it easy to double suspenders as an everyday outfit and with cosplay!

Just clip them on to you shorts/skirt and you’re ready to go as Ciel!

Price: $6.99

The Shoes

Any knee high boots will work! I only chose these from Amazon because they looked so much like Ciel’s boots. Also, a perfect example of look for better deals: I found the almost exact same boots on clearance at DSW for like $20

What I would mend:

Don’t buy shoes online.

Price: $32.80 - $65.30

Makeup

Unlike Rize, Ciel’s makeup can be very simple. For most male characters, simpler eye makeup captures the character’s masculinity, however Ciel has very gorgeous and feminine eyes so I recommend going for more feminine eye makeup. Here’s the tutorial I suggest:

What I would mend:

I personally hate concealing my eyebrows, and usually just color them in with the appropriate color. That’s what I recommend.

if you don’t plan on wearing an eyepatch and don’t want to wear Ciel’s eye contact for his contract, like with Rize you can use your eyelids as your canvas! I suggest drawing Ciel’s contract on you right eyelid with makeup and put false eyelashes on your crease to create an eye effect, so when you close your eyes, you have Ciel’s contract. Refer to Michelle Phan’s Rize Makeup Tutorial for a better example of the eye makeup idea.

Optional Pieces

These are the pieces of the cosplay treated as accessories, they aren’t necessary to the costume itself, but rather add on’s to complete your look should you choose!

Ciel’s black top hat if you’d like to go for his more boyish looks.

What I would mend:

Decorate your hat with lace and fake flowers.

Price: $9.96

A little bit of sassy effect for Ciel. Great for photo shoots.

Price: $9.95

Truly, any gloves would do.

Price: $8.89

Truthfully, I hated wearing an eyepatch for Ciel.

What I would mend:

So what I would do is I’d take lace or ribbon and wrap it around my head until my right eye was completely covered.

I would also suggest the makeup idea for Ciel to draw the demon contract over his right eyelid as stated in the makeup section! Give it a shot!

Price: $3.98

This coat also comes in burgundy, navy, and gray if you decide to go with a different color scheme for Ciel’s cosplay.

I think this trench coat is the most essential piece of the optional pieces, so if you’re stuck on picking one, go for the trench coat! I’m not sure about with the skirt, but this would especially look good with the shorts!

Price: $29.99

To tie off

Ciel’s Closet Cosplay, as always, I hope I inspired you to put together this cosplay! I agree, it was more heavy on the price to look for quality items. Ciel was definitely hard to shop for and stay within an affordable budget. Remember to thrif shop for these items!

This outfit can be worn both as an everyday outfit or a cosplay! I specifically tailored it so that you may wear it discreetly in public as your favorite character while still looking cute; or wear it as a affordable cosplay and others still recognize your character! Not everyone can afford their favorite cosplay so I hope this inspires you to find a cosplay from your own closet! Everyone should be able to cosplay on a budget and feel good! Until next time and Happy New Year! -Rei
